Agartala, December 15, 2025: Tripura has reinforced its position on the national energy conservation landscape with another notable achievement, as the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) earned fresh national recognition for its sustained performance in energy efficiency.
Marking National Energy Conservation Day, Tripura secured the second position in the Group–5 category at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025, following its first-place finish in the Group–4 category in 2024. The consecutive honours have been widely viewed as a significant feat for a small northeastern state, reflecting a focused and consistent approach towards sustainable and efficient power management.
The award was presented at a national ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the honour on TSECL Technical Director Dr Subir Sen and Seema Das, AGM and Nodal Officer of the State Designated Agency under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The awards were instituted by the Ministry of Power and based on the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2025 assessment.
In the State Performance Award for Energy Efficiency, Tripura ranked second among 11 States and Union Territories in Group–5, which includes Chandigarh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Manipur, Lakshadweep, Nagaland and Mizoram.
The SEEI 2025 evaluated the energy efficiency performance of 36 States and Union Territories for 2024–25, covering seven key sectors—buildings, industry, transport, agriculture, Discoms, municipal services and cross-sectoral initiatives—using 66 indicators.
Reacting to the achievement, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath termed the back-to-back national recognition a landmark moment for Tripura, crediting the dedication and systematic efforts of TSECL officials and staff. He also appealed to consumers to adopt energy-efficient practices and avoid power wastage to sustain such progress.
TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu congratulated all officers, employees and electricity consumers, acknowledging their collective role in the state’s growing success in energy efficiency.
