Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on December 20 and 21 to inaugurate key infrastructure projects and pay tribute to martyrs.
On December 20, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Terminal 2 at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Named after the Bamboo Orchids and inspired by the state’s kopou phool (foxtail orchid) and traditional bamboo, the terminal reflects Assam’s cultural and natural heritage. The facility, earlier unveiled in design at the Advantage Assam 2.0 event, is built to handle 13.1 million passengers annually and is expected to enhance regional connectivity while promoting economic integration across the eight North Eastern states.
During his stay in Guwahati, PM Modi will also visit the state BJP headquarters and the Swahid Smarak Khetra at Pachim Boragaon to pay homage to the martyrs of the Assam Movement.
On December 21, he will proceed to Namrup in Dibrugarh district to lay the foundation stone of a new brownfield ammonia-urea complex at the Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited (BVFCL). The project, with an investment of about ₹12,000 crore, aims to strengthen Assam’s industrial base and improve fertiliser availability across the Northeast and eastern India.
Ahead of the visit, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inspected the Namrup fertiliser complex on December 14 to review logistical arrangements, security measures, and overall readiness for the foundation-laying ceremony.
