Guwahati, Dec 18: Assam Police repatriated seven Bangladeshi nationals after intercepting them in Cachar district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday. The individuals were sent back across the border through Sribhumi.

In a post on X, Sarma praised the Cachar Police for the operation and reiterated the state government’s policy of taking firm action against illegal infiltration. He said such steps are part of ongoing efforts to prevent unauthorised entry into Assam.

The Chief Minister said the state has been regularly repatriating undocumented migrants. In October, the Assam Cabinet approved a standard operating procedure under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, authorising district administrations to expel illegal entrants from neighbouring countries.

Security agencies have also stepped up vigilance along the international border. The Border Security Force has intensified patrolling along the 1,885-kilometre border in the Northeast, while state police continue to monitor border areas to curb unauthorised crossings.
