Agartala, December 19, 2025: Women in Tripura are emerging as a formidable force in entrepreneurship and skill development, backed by a series of targeted initiatives by the Government of India aimed at fostering economic independence and enterprise leadership among women.
According to a written reply by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, in the Rajya Sabha, the Ministry has trained 1,697 women in Tripura under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PMJANMAN) over the past three years, reflecting a strong gender focus in tribal empowerment.
Under the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) scheme, 9,742 women in Tripura have received vocational training between FY 2022–23 and October 31, 2025, enhancing their employability and self-reliance.
The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0) has also made significant inroads in the state, with 14,772 individuals trained and 9,796 certified from FY 2023–24 to FY 2025–26, a large proportion of whom are women.
In the realm of technical education, women’s enrolment in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) stood at 721 in 2022, 704 in 2023, and 671 in 2024, indicating a steady presence in vocational streams.
Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), 10,851 women in Tripura were trained and 8,080 successfully settled into livelihoods. The Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) in the state received cumulative funding of ₹575.21 crore over four years to support such initiatives.
Tripura also saw the establishment of 1,739 enterprises under the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) in the last three years, further strengthening the rural entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Women-led micro-enterprises received a boost through Margin Money subsidies: ₹12.43 crore was disbursed to 533 enterprises under general schemes, while ₹10.37 crore supported 411 rural enterprises under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) between FY 2022–23 and FY 2024–25.
Although only 10 women were trained under the DAY-NULM scheme in the last three years, none were placed, highlighting a gap in urban employment linkage that may require further policy attention.
Financial inclusion has also seen a surge, with 5,24,597 loan accounts of women entrepreneurs benefiting under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) and Stand-Up India Scheme, with a total sanction of ₹2,903.21 crore from FY 2022–23 to FY 2025–26. Specifically, ₹53.22 crore was sanctioned for 263 women-led enterprises under the Stand-Up India Scheme during this period.
These figures highlight the government’s sustained efforts to build entrepreneurial capacity among women in Tripura, offering a robust foundation for inclusive economic growth and gender empowerment in the region.
