The Indian Railways will run two special trains between Guwahati and Aizawl’s Sairang station to meet the increased travel demand during the Christmas season, Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena announced on Thursday.
The announcement comes after Vanlalvena requested Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to introduce additional services amid rising commuter demand. The minister approved the plan, and 14-coach special trains will now operate on the route.
The trains will depart Guwahati for Aizawl on December 22 and 24 and return from Aizawl to Guwahati on December 23 and 25. The schedule coincides with Christmas and New Year festivities, providing easier travel for passengers returning to their hometowns.
Vanlalvena said the services would also benefit Mizoram and Manipur residents living in Delhi and other metropolitan cities who were unable to secure direct tickets to Aizawl. Passengers can now travel via Guwahati using these special trains.
Mizoram has increasingly become a key transit hub for Kuki-Zo communities from Manipur, who prefer it over Imphal amid ongoing ethnic tensions in the state.
