Guwahati, December 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday evening visited the Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Guwahati, where he chaired a key strategy meeting with around 280 party leaders as preparations begin for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
Modi reached the BJP’s Vajpayee Bhawan in the Basistha area after leading a 3.8-kilometre roadshow from the Sarusajai Sports Complex. Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia had earlier told PTI that the prime minister was scheduled to hold discussions with party leaders during the visit.
The Vajpayee Bhawan, inaugurated in October 2022 by BJP national president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, hosted Modi for the first time. According to Assam BJP spokesperson Dewan Dhruba Jyoti Maral, the closed-door meeting was attended by former and current state BJP presidents, Members of Parliament, ministers, and Members of the Legislative Assembly.
The visit to the party headquarters was part of Modi’s two-day tour of Assam. Earlier in the day, he unveiled a statue of Assam’s first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi, inaugurated a new terminal building at Guwahati airport, and addressed a public rally in the state.
