Agartala, December 22, 2025: The Kalachhara market area under Dharmanagar subdivision in Tripura’s North district witnessed a massive protest on Sunday evening, as the Kalachhara Eidgah Committee led a rally condemning rising religious fundamentalism and minority persecution in neighboring Bangladesh.

The demonstration was sparked by outrage over the brutal killing of Dipu Das, a young man from the minority community in Mymensingh, who was beaten and then set ablaze. Protesters expressed deep anger at the incident, calling it a chilling reminder of the growing insecurity faced by minorities in Bangladesh.

Speakers at the rally sharply criticized the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, accusing it of failing to curb extremist groups that are allegedly spreading unrest across the country. They charged that fundamentalist forces are deliberately targeting minority communities and silencing independent voices.

Particular concern was raised over recent attacks on leading Bangladeshi media houses Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, which protesters described as a blatant attempt to stifle democracy. The vandalism at the office of Chhayanaut, Bangladesh’s iconic cultural organization founded in 1961, and continued assaults on Hindu minorities were also condemned.

The rally further denounced the attack on the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and anti-India slogans raised during the unrest. Leaders reminded the gathering of the historic cultural and spiritual ties forged between India and Bangladesh during the 1971 Liberation War, warning that fundamentalist forces are conspiring to destroy this bond.

The Kalachhara Eidgah Committee demanded a fair, impartial, and speedy investigation into these incidents, exemplary punishment for the perpetrators, and effective measures to safeguard minority communities and journalists in Bangladesh.

Speakers emphasized that governments must take active and firm steps to resist such destructive forces, urging all right-thinking citizens to unite in defense of peace, harmony, and democracy.

Among those present at the protest were committee members Abdul Suban, Joynal Uddin, Maulana Abdul Jabbar, along with many conscious citizens from minority communities.
