A high-level meeting was held today at the Police Headquarters, chaired by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), with the participation of Superintendents of Police from concerned districts and representatives of the Petroleum Dealers Association, Manipur, to review the existing security arrangements for fuel retail outlets across the state.
During the meeting, the Police Department assured that security measures for retail outlets would be comprehensively reviewed and strengthened. It was decided that additional steps, including the vetting of all employees working at retail outlets, would be undertaken. Mobile police teams will also be deployed at strategic locations to ensure the safety and security of petrol pumps.
The police further stated that the anti-extortion mechanism would be enhanced to effectively counter threats directed at petroleum retail outlets. Officials also informed that in recent days, Manipur Police have arrested two persons in connection with extortion cases involving petrol pumps, and further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
