Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Joins Third High-Level Task Force Meeting On Agriculture In Northeast

Gangtok, Dec 24: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Wednesday participated in the third meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Agriculture in the North Eastern Region via video conference. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The meeting reviewed the key recommendations of the High-Level Task Force report, with discussions focusing on strengthening agricultural value chains across the Northeast. Strategies to improve crop productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, scale up value addition and processing, and strengthen market linkages were deliberated.

Participants also discussed the prioritisation of crops into backbone, growth-driver, premium, and emerging categories. Other areas of focus included the development of GI and organic clusters, adoption of precision agriculture, strengthening cold-chain and logistics infrastructure, leveraging funding opportunities, and improving access to finance, technology, and investments.

The discussions underlined the importance of coordinated action among the Centre, state governments, and institutions to address structural challenges and to implement the report’s short-term, medium-term, and long-term recommendations in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
