Agartala, December 30, 2025: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday described the murder of North East student Angel Chakma in Dehradun as an extremely painful and distressing incident, asserting that the state government is committed to ensuring the strictest punishment for the perpetrators.
In an official statement, the Chief Minister said the killing was not just the loss of a young student but the untimely end of a family’s aspirations. He extended his deepest condolences to the grieving relatives, praying for strength to help them endure the tragedy.
Dhami said he spoke to Angel Chakma’s father earlier in the day and conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand. “Words felt inadequate in this tragic hour,” he stated, adding that he assured the family that all those responsible for the murder would be arrested at the earliest and brought before the law.
Reiterating that law and order remains the highest priority of his government, Dhami noted that the police had taken prompt, sensitive, and strict action in the case. Most of the accused have already been arrested, he said, while effective efforts are underway to apprehend the main absconding accused.
“The guilty will not be spared under any circumstances,” the Chief Minister affirmed.
Dhami stressed that Uttarakhand is a peaceful, inclusive, and harmonious state where students from across the country should feel safe. He added that concrete steps are being taken to ensure the safety of students from the North East and other states studying in the region.
The government, he said, stands firmly with the bereaved family and remains fully committed to securing justice in the case.
