An ambulance carrying a body plunged into a river at Teijangkot village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, killing the driver and a handyman on the spot.
It is reported that the vehicle, belonging to the Young Mizo Association (YMA), was transporting a body from Moreh town to the Churachandpur district headquarters when the accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
The ambulance reportedly veered off the road and fell into the Guin River.
The deceased were identified as the driver, Lamlalsang, and the handyman, Jimmy Nengsuanpau. Both died due to drowning after the vehicle became submerged.
Local villagers later noticed the submerged ambulance and managed to recover the vehicle along with the bodies from the river.
The bodies were subsequently shifted to the Churachandpur District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case at the concerned police station, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
