*Assam Rifles, Mizoram Police seized meth tablets worth Rs 33.186 crore in Kaifang*
Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Mizoram Police, seized 11.062 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 33.186 crore from Kaifang village near the Indo-Myanmar border in Saitual district and arrested one person in connection with the haul.
The operation was carried out on Friday based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics in the border area. Troops detected suspicious activity and launched a swift raid, during which the contraband and a vehicle used for transportation were recovered.
The arrested person was identified as Hasan Ali, a resident of Badarpur in Assam. All seized items, along with the accused, were handed over to Saitual Police for further investigation and legal action.
In a separate operation in December, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Cachar Police, seized illegal cigarettes worth Rs 1.83 crore from the Tarapur area of Silchar in Assam. A total of 3,060 packets of cigarettes were recovered, and two persons Hanannan Husain Burnhuiya of Islamabad, Cachar, and Islamuddin Laskar of Bagha, Cachar were arrested along with a vehicle. The accused and seized items were later handed over to the local police.
Assam Rifles stated that it remains committed to intensifying operations to curb smuggling and dismantle organised illegal networks operating across the region.
