Agartala, January 5, 2026: Tension gripped the outskirts of the Agartala city after the half-burnt body of a young woman was recovered from a rubber plantation in Kali Tilla under Srinagar police station limits on Monday morning.

Police sources informed that the body was recovered in the Ranjit Saha rubber plantation, located about one kilometre from Srinagar police station. A local youth, who had gone to cut trees in the plantation, spotted a dog dragging the charred remains. He immediately alerted the police.

Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman was murdered before her body was set on fire in an attempt to conceal her identity. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.

Officials said the deceased is believed to be between 25 and 30 years old, though her identity has not yet been established. Efforts are underway to trace her identity and unravel the mystery behind the crime.

Given the gravity of the incident, a dog squad and forensic team were deployed to the site. They have collected samples and are examining evidence to piece together the sequence of events.
