A five-day workshop on “Holistic Progress Card for Secondary Stage and Standardisation of Question Papers” began on Monday, January 5, marking a key step towards the implementation of reforms envisaged under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The workshop is being jointly organised by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) in collaboration with PARAKH, and has brought together teachers from schools across the state to familiarise them with the evolving assessment framework.
Inaugurating the programme, COHSEM Chairman Takhellambam Ojit Singh said NEP 2020 mandates transformative changes in the education system to establish a uniform and holistic academic structure nationwide. He stated that these reforms are expected to bring long-term positive impacts on society and must be adopted by all state boards and councils.
Highlighting the importance of capacity building, Singh stressed that equipping teachers with adequate skills and a clear understanding of the new assessment system is essential for its effective implementation. He informed that the Holistic Progress Card (HPC), a core component of NEP 2020, is likely to be introduced within the next two to three years, and the current workshop serves as a preparatory exercise.
The programme was also attended by CEO and Head of PARAKH, NCERT, New Delhi, Prof. Indrani Bhaduri, who delivered the keynote address. She outlined PARAKH’s initiatives to transform the examination system in line with NEP 2020 and to ensure parity among school boards across the country.
Unlike the conventional evaluation system that primarily focused on academic scores, the Holistic Progress Card will assess both academic and co-curricular achievements, maintaining a comprehensive record of a student’s development from Class 1 to Class 12, Singh said.
He added that the new assessment approach would provide a clearer picture of a student’s overall growth, helping parents and educators identify strengths, interests, and areas for improvement, thereby enabling more informed academic and career guidance.
