Manipur Police have rescued four young people who were allegedly being forcibly recruited into a banned militant organisation, following the arrest of an active cadre in Imphal West district.
The accused, identified as Phamdom Dinesh Singh (37), also known by the aliases Wangba and Thembung, was arrested from his residence at Takyel Khongbal Maning Leikai Lairembi Leirak under the jurisdiction of Patsoi Police Station on January 6. Police said he is an active member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL) and was involved in recruiting youths into the outfit.
During the operation, police rescued four individuals who had been confined in a rented house at Langjing. A mobile phone and an unregistered Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Police officials said the arrest underscores continuing concerns over militant groups attempting to expand their ranks by targeting vulnerable youths in the region. The identities of the rescued individuals have not been disclosed for security reasons.
