Centre Reaffirms Support for Tribal Development in Tripura: MoS Durgadas Uikey

Agartala, January 08, 2025: Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Durgadas Uikey concluded his Tripura visit with a courtesy meeting at the state secretariat in Agartala on Wednesday, where he held discussions with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on issues concerning the welfare and empowerment of tribal communities.

During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the progress of ongoing welfare schemes, strategies for social and economic empowerment, and future initiatives aimed at inclusive development. The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to tribal upliftment with the support of the Centre. Minister Wiki assured that the Union government will continue its comprehensive assistance to ensure the holistic development of Tripura’s tribal population.

Earlier in the day, the Minister inaugurated a Tribal Corner at the Birchandra Manu Eklavya Model Residential School in South Tripura’s Jolaibari. The facility showcases essential items including clothing and food products used by tribal communities. Addressing the gathering, Wiki highlighted the rich traditions and heritage of India’s tribal societies, noting that tribal ancestors revered the Earth as “Mother” and continue to play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance.

“Across India, from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh to the North-East, over 125 million tribal families live in harmony with nature. Tribals are not only worshippers of nature but also its protectors,” he said.

The event was attended by Tripura ST Corporation Chairman and MLA Rampada Jamatia, South Tripura District Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P., and other dignitaries.
