Itanagar, Jan 10: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh has appointed Likha Nari Tadar as the mayor of Itanagar, making her the first woman to hold the post.

Tadar, who represents Ward 16 of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), was selected during a meeting of the BJP’s state election committee held on Friday. Corporator Tok Tabin Camdir from Ward 19 has been appointed as the deputy mayor.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated both leaders in a post on X, stating that their leadership and commitment would contribute to inclusive urban development, transparent governance, and public welfare in Itanagar.

The appointments follow the BJP’s performance in the IMC elections held on December 15, in which the party won 14 of the 20 wards. The Nationalist Congress Party secured three wards, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won two, and one ward was won by an Independent candidate.
