Tripura: Major Bus Accident at Kamalpur’s Saikabari Leaves 18 Injured

Agartala, January 12, 2026: Panic gripped Saikabari in Kamalpur early on Monday morning after a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a deep gorge. The bus, traveling from Kailashahar to Agartala, was carrying 32 passengers at the time of the accident. At least 18 passengers sustained injuries in the mishap.

On receiving the news, fire service personnel and local administration officials rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. The injured were immediately taken to Bimal Singha Memorial Hospital at Kamalpur for treatment. Following preliminary medical care, 11 passengers were admitted to the local hospital, while five were shifted to Dhalai District Hospital and two to Fatikrara Primary Health Centre for further treatment.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha expressed concern over the incident in a social media post. He confirmed that the administration has been directed to take all necessary measures and assured that no lapses will be allowed in medical care. The Chief Minister also conveyed his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. The incident created widespread commotion and heavy crowding in the Saikabari market area as news of the crash spread.
