Amid continued lack of response from the state administration regarding unresolved issues faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs), a large number of IDPs today took to the streets and attempted to march towards the Lok Bhavan to submit a memorandum to the Governor.
According to a statement by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), the protest was triggered by the government’s failure to intervene despite repeated appeals on IDP-related issues. IDPs from various relief camps and localities participated in the march, converging at different points across Imphal.
Heavy security arrangements were put in place, with RAF, CRPF, and Manipur Police personnel deployed at key locations, including Keisampat Junction, to prevent the protesters from reaching Raj Bhavan. Security forces blocked roads leading to the Governor’s residence.
COCOMI further stated that 11 representatives had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, and the Governor was also apprised of the situation. During the protest, IDPs raised slogans demanding safe return to their homes, reopening of national highways, and restoration of peace, asserting that Manipur belongs to all its people.
