Agartala, January 14, 2026: Tripura Police on Tuesday night arrested a man and seized arms-manufacturing equipment along with live cartridges during a raid at Kartik Chowmuhani under Amtali Police Station in West Tripura district.

Providing details, Amtali Sub-Divisional Police Officer Parmita Pandey said the action was taken following a specific intelligence input received late at night about the presence of illegal arms-related materials at a house in the area. Acting swiftly, a team from Amtali Police Station led by Sub-Inspector Mrinal Paul reached the spot, secured the premises and conducted a thorough search.

During the operation, police recovered seven cartridge cases, bullet-related components and tools suspected to have been used in the manufacture of firearms. One person, identified as Balbair Singh, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

SDPO Pandey said the accused will be produced before a court on Thursday, and police will seek his remand to carry forward the investigation. The seized items will be sent for forensic examination to determine their nature and origin.

She further revealed that a previous case had been registered against the accused in 2024 at Kalamchoura Police Station in Sepahijala district. Police are now gathering details of that case as part of the current investigation.

Further probe is underway to trace the source of the seized materials and to ascertain their intended use, police added.
