Aizawl, Jan 15: Around 45 per cent of the 119.5-km natural gas pipeline connecting Tripura and Mizoram has been completed, officials of Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited said on Thursday.
The pipeline is part of the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid and is scheduled to be completed by December 2027. It will originate at the Panisagar receiving terminal in Tripura and pass through Kanhmun, Zawlnuam, Kawrthah, Tuidam and Darlak before reaching near Mamit in Mizoram. The alignment will then extend to Lengte and terminate at the proposed Sihhmui receiving terminal, about 21 km from Aizawl.
Officials said gas from the Sihhmui terminal will be supplied to households in Aizawl city by Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited.
Mizoram Civil Supplies Minister B Lalchhanzova reviewed the progress of the project during a visit to Agartala on Wednesday. He held meetings with officials of TNGCL and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, visited a CNG station, and inspected a residential complex where pipeline gas is being provided to around 330 households.
The project is expected to support domestic, commercial, industrial and transport sectors in Mizoram after completion.
