The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with the District Administration Senapati, successfully organized a one-day sensitization programme on “The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013” at the DRDA Conference Hall, Old DC Office Complex, Senapati.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, Mamoni Doley, IAS, lauded MSCW for its proactive initiative towards ensuring a safer and more inclusive workplace for women. She observed that many offices submit ‘nil’ reports on harassment, often due to lack of legal awareness or the misconception that absence of complaints implies absence of incidents. She highlighted that sexist or misogynistic remarks are sometimes made unknowingly, even though they constitute harassment under the law.

The DC further pointed out that women often hesitate to seek legal remedies to safeguard their dignity due to fear of societal victim-blaming. She urged all offices to prominently display key provisions of the Act on notice boards and public spaces through posters and flex boards. She also encouraged employees to make use of the iGOT Karmayogi platform, which provides simplified video modules on workplace safety and legal rights, adding that the Act protects everyone entering a workplace and ensures the right to exist peacefully.

MSCW Chairperson Th. Tiningpham Monsang highlighted the roles and activities of the Commission in addressing issues faced by women in the state and advocating women’s rights for empowerment. She informed that complaints related to sexual harassment can be registered through the SHe-Box portal, by calling the National Helpline number 181, or by approaching the local complaints authority. She appealed to all stakeholders to work collectively towards making workplaces safe and harmonious.
The programme featured a technical session on the Act delivered by Kawizengdauliu, Advocate, Senapati District Court, followed by an interactive session.

The event was attended by Khosia Mao, Public Prosecutor-cum-Government Advocate, Senapati and Chairperson of the Local Complaints Committee, Senapati; SK Sophia Moyon, Member, MSCW; Sub-Divisional Officers, District Level Officers, Presiding Officers, and members of Internal Committees from various departments, institutions, and organizations of Senapati district.
