As part of the National Road Safety Month (NRSM) under the Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan, the District Transport Office (DTO), Ukhrul, organised a Road Safety Awareness Rally in the district on Tuesday.
The rally commenced from the Mini Secretariat at Hamleikhong and was led by Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Asish Das, IAS, along with District Level Officers from various departments. The rally proceeded up to the Town Hall at Phungreitang before concluding back at the Mini Secretariat.
Addressing the gathering, Ukhrul District Transport Officer Ninganung Hashunao emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility and can only be achieved through strong coordination among government agencies, civil society and the media. He stressed that collective efforts are essential to ensure safer roads and the protection of human lives.
To promote awareness and responsible road behaviour, especially among young minds, all participants took a Road Safety Pledge. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from staff of various departments under the district administration.
As part of the NRSM observation, officials from the District Transport Office also engaged directly with the public on issues such as helmet use, seatbelt compliance, responsible driving practices and pedestrian safety.
The district administration has planned several activities throughout the month, including free medical health camps, road safety quiz competitions, identification and repair of accident-prone spots in the town, and community outreach programmes. These initiatives aim to ensure that the spirit of National Road Safety Month leads to a sustained reduction in road accidents in Ukhrul district.
