The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland, aims to fully phase out manual registration of births and deaths in the state. Advisor for Economics & Statistics, H. Sethrongkyu Sangtam, announced this during a press conference on the implementation of the Nagaland Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Rules, 2024, on Wednesday.
He stated that all registrations will now be done through the online portal, and previously issued manual certificates will also be digitalized in the coming days. The amended rules, notified in February 2025, specify that a birth certificate will serve as the sole document to verify the place and date of birth for individuals born on or before 1 October 2023, for purposes such as school admissions and government jobs.
