Agartala, January 22, 2026: Tripura police achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing anti-drug campaign with the arrest of a youth in possession of brown sugar.

Acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, police raided the Tripura’s Jubarajnagar area of Kailashahar in Unakoti district late last night. Officer-in-Charge Tapas Malakar told the media this morning that the suspect, identified as Mofik Mia, a resident of Jubarajnagar, was found roaming the town with brown sugar.

The operation was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. During the search, police recovered brown sugar from the accused, who was immediately taken into custody and brought to Kailashahar police station.

According to police sources, a case has been registered under the NDPS Act (Case No. 5/2026). The accused will be produced before the District and Sessions Court today.

OC Malakar further stated that investigations are underway to determine whether the arrested youth was acting alone or part of a larger drug network. All possible angles are being examined.

The rise in drug-related activities in Kailashahar and across Unakoti district has sparked growing concern among residents. Observers believe this successful operation reflects the police’s firm stance against drug trafficking. Authorities have assured that such anti-drug drives will continue in their mission to build a drug-free society.
