Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Saturday participated in the 2nd Global Buddhist Summit held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, where he spoke at the Ministerial Panel on “Collective Wisdom and United Voice for Social Harmony.”
Addressing the panel, Chowna Mein highlighted the relevance of Buddha Dhamma in the present global context, noting that compassion, dialogue and ethical conduct are essential amid growing global uncertainties. He said the teachings of the Buddha emphasise the interconnectedness of humanity.
The Deputy Chief Minister said Arunachal Pradesh reflects unity in diversity through the harmonious coexistence of Mahāyāna and Theravāda Buddhist traditions across regions such as Tawang, Mechukha, Namsai and Changlang. He added that the state’s monasteries, pagodas, manuscripts and indigenous traditions represent Buddhism as a living practice rather than only a philosophical system.
Chowna Mein expressed gratitude to the International Buddhist Confederation and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for organising the summit. He also acknowledged the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in initiatives related to the preservation and promotion of Buddhist heritage.
The Global Buddhist Summit brought together leaders, scholars and practitioners to discuss the role of Buddhist values in promoting peace and social harmony worldwide.
