Late Yumnam Jatra Singh, a distinguished exponent of Manipur’s Vaishnavite art form Nata Sankirtana, has been posthumously conferred the Padma Shri, marking national recognition of his lifelong dedication to preserving the state’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
Welcoming the honour, his son Yumnam Bishambor Singh expressed gratitude to the central government, stating that the award has brought immense pride to the family. He noted that although no family member has continued the tradition of Nata Sankirtana, the legacy of his father’s contributions remains enduring.
Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also hailed the award, describing it as a fitting and eternal acknowledgment of Yumnam Jatra Singh’s invaluable service to Manipur’s cultural soul and its vibrant Vaishnavite traditions.
