Agartala, January 28, 2026: Tripura’s former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), urging people to unite against the state government.
At a public rally in Falakata under the banner of Paribartan Sankalp Sabha, Deb declared that the people of West Bengal “want freedom from Mamata Banerjee” and emphasized that the state belongs to its citizens, not to the Chief Minister. He asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is determined to remove the TMC from power in the upcoming assembly elections, drawing parallels with the party’s earlier moves such as the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and the construction of the Ram Mandir.
The BJP leader further alleged that Banerjee’s electoral victories have been aided by votes from “illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh,” warning that those who entered India illegally after 2002 would be identified and sent back. He controversially remarked that if the Chief Minister sympathizes with such infiltrators, “she should go there herself.”
Deb also criticized the state’s law and order situation, claiming that women are unsafe under a woman Chief Minister. He accused TMC leaders of involvement in trafficking and said Banerjee has failed to protect women. He alleged that cultural and religious practices, including Saraswati Puja, are being restricted, urging citizens to reclaim their rights through the ballot.
In addition, Deb accused Mamata Banerjee and her nephew of blocking central government welfare schemes from reaching the poor, alleging corruption and diversion of funds through “cut money.” He called upon the people to rise against the TMC government to safeguard their rights and the future of their children.
