The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) on Wednesday announced the suspension of the 24-hour total shutdown imposed along AH-2 and NH-37, following positive assurances from the concerned authorities.

In a press statement, CoTU appreciated the support extended by the general public, church leaders and various civil organisations during the shutdown, which was enforced from midnight of January 27 to protest the government’s inaction in arresting members of the ZUF-S Kamson group accused of setting K Songlung Village, Part II ablaze on Republic Day.

The committee said it decided to reconsider the shutdown after detailed discussions. CoTU and its stakeholders also deliberated on the joint declaration issued by the United Naga Council (UNC) and the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) at Kangpokpi on January 27, calling for amicable dialogue.

CoTU unanimously resolved to uphold the decision of the two tribal apex bodies in the interest of maintaining cordial relations between the two communities, and accordingly suspended the shutdown with immediate effect.
