Agartala, January 30, 2025: Babulal Debnath, TPS, of North Tripura district, was conferred with the prestigious Rah-Veer Samman Smarak-2026 at a glittering ceremony held at Prime Focus Studio, Film City, Mumbai, on January 23. The award was presented by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.

The event, titled The Grand Telethon of Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan 2026, was organised by Network-18 and witnessed the presence of renowned film personalities including Amitabh Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt. Debnath secured second position among the top five Rah-Veers selected from across the country, recognising exemplary courage and commitment to road safety.

The honour was bestowed for his heroic act on July 1, 2025, when he noticed an elderly woman lying critically injured on the road at Durjoynagar under NCC Police Station while returning to Agartala after dropping his daughter at the airport. Despite the absence of immediate help, he promptly stopped his vehicle, provided assistance, and, with the help of local residents, rushed the victim to the Trauma Centre at AGMC & GBP Hospital, thereby saving her life.

The achievement has filled the Tripura Police fraternity with pride, highlighting the spirit of humanity and selfless service beyond duty.
