Shillong, Jan 30: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Meghalaya Police officials led by Inspector General of Police (CID), Aditya Goenka, IPS, destroyed seized drugs at the kiln of Star Cement Ltd., Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills District on Thursday. The exercise was conducted in the presence of Superintendents of Police from East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and other senior police officers.

Inspector General Goenka said the District Disposal Committees were formed to ensure the scientific destruction of narcotics in strict compliance with legal provisions. During the programme, 183 grams of heroin, 296 kilograms of ganja, 9 kilograms of methamphetamine, 2,793 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, and 534 R-7 tablets were destroyed.

He estimated the total market value of the destroyed drugs at approximately ₹9.11 crores and emphasized that the Meghalaya Police and State Government remain committed to making Meghalaya a drug-free state. The seizures were linked to 58 cases registered across various districts, reflecting sustained enforcement action against drug trafficking.
Goenka highlighted that under Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the DREAM Mission has grown into a mass movement promoting not only enforcement but also rehabilitation, awareness, and prevention to address the drug menace comprehensively. He added that every gram of destroyed narcotics represents a step toward protecting vulnerable individuals from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
