Agartala, January 30, 2026: A tragic road accident took place on the Assam-Agartala National Highway near Sidongchhara in Kumargahat, where a goods-laden lorry collided head-on with a passenger auto-rickshaw. The collision left four people dead and two others critically injured.

Local sources informed that the accident took place when the speeding lorry rammed into the auto-rickshaw carrying passengers. Residents immediately alerted the fire service and police. Firefighters rushed the injured to Unakoti District Hospital, Kailashahar, from where they were later referred to Silchar for advanced treatment.

The deceased have been identified as: Bhaskar Goswami (45), auto driver, resident of North Pabiachhara; Kanchana Chakma (55); Harishankar Debtata (52); and Garimili Chakma. The injured are Jatripathi Chakma (42) and Mayarani Debnath (55), both reported to be in critical condition.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the lorry driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have launched an inquiry into the incident.
