Agartala, January 30, 2026: The Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Tripura, organized a Regional-Level Awareness Workshop on Friday at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala, as part of the pre-summit outreach for the forthcoming India-AI Impact Summit 2026. The landmark summit, scheduled for February 19–20 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, will be the first global AI forum hosted in the Global South, underscoring India’s growing leadership in artificial intelligence.
The workshop was inaugurated by J.K. Sinha, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Tripura, in the presence of Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary, IT, and Suprakash Jamatia, Director (In-Charge), IT. Nearly 350 participants, including students and faculty from eight premier institutions such as NIT Agartala, National Law University Tripura, Indian Institute of Information Technology, and National Forensic Sciences University, attended the event.
Distinguished speakers including Dr. Suman Deb (NIT Agartala), Dr. Tanmoy Bhowmik (Paytm), and Prof. (Dr.) Nachiketa Mittal (NLU Tripura) delivered sessions on Digital India initiatives and the practical implementation of safe and inclusive AI frameworks. Discussions highlighted the transformative role of AI in governance, agriculture, healthcare, and education.
The workshop also spotlighted the India-AI Mission, launched under MeitY with an outlay of over Rs 10,300 crore. Designed to catalyze a robust AI ecosystem, the mission operates under the vision of “Making AI in India and Making AI Work for India.”
The key initiatives of the India-AI Mission include establishing AI labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities under the Future Skills program to prepare an AI-ready workforce; creating an Innovation Centre that enables students to work with indigenous large language models and pursue foundational research; expanding Compute Capacity through scalable AI infrastructure built via public-private partnerships; promoting Application Development to encourage AI-driven solutions in healthcare, agriculture, and governance; and introducing a Startup Financing framework to streamline funding access for AI-based student-led startups.
In collaboration with India-AI, the Government of Tripura is also setting up AI labs in local institutions to ensure grassroots access to advanced skills and training.
Speaking at the event, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha emphasized that the initiative is equipping Tripura’s youth with future-ready skills while fostering inclusive, technology-driven growth across the region.
The India-AI Impact Summit 2026, announced by the Prime Minister at the France AI Action Summit last year, is expected to be a landmark event showcasing India’s AI leadership on the global stage.
