Agartala, January 31, 2026: With the West Bengal Assembly elections drawing closer, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has roped in nearly 20 leaders from Tripura to strengthen its organizational machinery in the state. A special meeting held in Kolkata today outlined their responsibilities, signaling the party’s intensified focus on Bengal after its recent success in Bihar.
Senior leaders from Tripura, including Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman, MLAs Bhagaban Das, Sushanta Deb, Shambhu Lal Chakma, former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, and state general secretaries Amit Rakhit and Papia Dutta, were among those present.
Party insiders said the central leadership emphasized constituency-level strategies during the meeting. “Each of us has been tasked with overseeing one assembly constituency. Some leaders will manage multiple constituencies to ensure stronger grassroots engagement,” a source revealed.
West Bengal has now become the BJP’s primary battleground, with top leaders stepping up their presence. Union ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Biplab Kumar Deb are already active on the ground, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun his campaign visits. Former BJP national president J.P. Nadda has also directed leaders from across states to intensify efforts in Bengal.
According to sources, leaders such as Pratima Bhoumik, Abhishek Deb Roy, Nabadal Banik, Sushanta Deb, and Bhagaban Das have each been assigned seven constituencies, while others will oversee one constituency apiece. These leaders are expected to personally visit their areas, organize party programs, and bolster BJP’s grassroots network ahead of the polls.
