Manipur wrapped up its campaign at the Junior National Judo Championships with an impressive haul of seven medals, including two gold, three silver and two bronze. The championships were hosted by West Bengal from January 23 to 25 in Kolkata.
Linthoi Chanambam (girls’ -63 kg) and Khaidem Taibangnganbi (girls’ -70 kg) clinched the gold medals for the state. Silver medals were won by Mayanglambam Wangthoi (boys’ -66 kg), Oliviya Huidrom (girls’ -48 kg) and Athoibi Yanglem (girls’ -63 kg).
The bronze medals went to L Nungshithoi (girls’ -52 kg) and Lovely Moirangmayum (girls’ -57 kg). Two other judokas, Huidrom Brainy (boys’ -90 kg) and Agasin Waikhom (boys’ -73 kg), finished fifth in their respective weight categories.
Adding to Manipur’s success, Linthoi Chanambam was adjudged the Best Judoka (Girls) of the championships.
Former Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, congratulated Linthoi on X, praising her outstanding achievements at national and international levels and stating that her recognition has brought immense pride to the state and the nation.
