Agartala, February 2, 2026: The Tripura Pradesh Congress has sharply criticized the Union Budget for 2026–27, calling it “directionless” and “routine,” with no clear roadmap for shaping the country’s future. Party leaders alleged that the budget has failed to meet the expectations of the northeastern region and offers no solutions to pressing national challenges.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Bhavan, Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha said the budget lacks vision and guidance. “This is a completely directionless budget. It cannot provide any roadmap for the country’s future. As a result, employment opportunities will shrink further and layoffs will increase,” he warned, adding that the greatest negative impact would fall on working-class people.
Echoing similar concerns, party spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty accused the government of widening avenues for converting black money into white. He also questioned the implementation of previous budgets, arguing that the latest one provides no direction for millions of unemployed youth. “What has Tripura received? None of the demands raised earlier for the state have been fulfilled,” he said.
Chakraborty further stressed that the budget has failed to address the aspirations of the northeastern states, particularly Tripura. Citing past budgetary figures, he expressed deep concern over the lack of adequate allocations and effective initiatives for the state’s development.
He asserted that crucial issues such as job creation, regional development, and youth empowerment have been completely ignored. “Instead of showing a new direction, this budget merely repeats old and routine measures, which are grossly insufficient to tackle the country’s economic and social crises,” Chakraborty added.
