Agartala, February 2, 2026: Tripura Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das has welcomed the Union Budget 2026-27, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a progressive and welfare-driven financial plan that will accelerate India’s development journey.

Das drew attention to the government’s announcement of developing 500 reservoirs and Amrit Sarovars, describing the initiative as a game-changer for the fisheries sector. He said the program would enhance nutrition, exports, and sustainable livelihoods for fishers nationwide, including those in Tripura. “This Budget represents the new flight of New India—development, trust, and opportunity. It is truly people-centric and welfare-oriented,” he remarked.

Highlighting Tripura’s dependence on fisheries for rural employment and nutrition, the Minister noted that the expansion of water resources and modernization of infrastructure would open new avenues for local entrepreneurs, strengthen food security, and increase the state’s role in national exports.

Das also extended congratulations to Prime Minister Modi and Finance Minister Sitharaman, stating that the Budget reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and grassroots empowerment. He emphasized that the measures align with the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Intellectuals in Tripura echoed the Minister’s optimism, saying the focus on reservoirs and Amrit Sarovars is expected to revitalize the state’s fishery economy and improve livelihoods for thousands of families dependent on the sector.
