Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire on suspected cow smugglers early Saturday in Mankachar’s Char Kukurmara area, leaving one person injured.
The incident occurred around 4 AM on February 1, when BSF jawans noticed a group attempting to transport cattle illegally from Kukur Mara towards Bangladesh. The smugglers reportedly ignored repeated warnings and tried to flee, prompting the BSF to fire in self-defence.
The injured individual, identified as Shahar Ali (26), son of Hikmat Ali of Kukur Mara Part-II village under Mankachar police station, sustained pellet injuries to the leg and is receiving treatment at Hatsingimari Civil Hospital.
During the operation, BSF recovered two cattle along with smuggling tools, including cutting equipment and nylon ropes. Officials said the action followed standard protocols as part of ongoing anti-smuggling efforts along the porous Assam-Bangladesh border.
