Assam Rifles Seized Heroin Worth Rs 60 Lakh In Cachar, One Arrested

Cachar, Feb 4: Assam Rifles, in coordination with Cachar District Police, seized 116.2 grams of heroin valued at around Rs 60 lakh and apprehended one alleged drug peddler near Jirighat Market in Cachar district. The operation was conducted following specific intelligence inputs.

Officials said a search was launched in the Nandankanan Bridge area, about 8 km west of Jaliura, leading to the recovery of 10 boxes of heroin. A mobile phone, Rs 25,500 in cash, and an auto-rickshaw allegedly used for transporting the contraband were also seized.

Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) said the success of the operation was attributed to effective intelligence sharing and coordinated action. The seized items and the apprehended individual have been handed over to Cachar District Police for further investigation.

In another operation on January 26, Assam Rifles recovered 339 bags of illegal areca nuts worth about Rs 1.80 crore from Tlangnuam in Aizawl district, Mizoram. Three individuals and three vehicles were seized and handed over to the Custom Preventive Force for legal action.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles personnel participated in the 77th Republic Day celebrations at several locations, including Srikona, Borobekra, Kadamtala, New Kaiphundai, Kaimai, and Nungba, with participation from students, teachers, and local residents.
