Shillong, Feb 4: Meghalaya MP Ricky AJ Syngkon has written to the Ministry of Textiles, urging the appointment of a full-time director for the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Shillong.
Citing NIFT Shillong’s October-December 2025 quarterly report, Syngkon noted that the absence of stable leadership has disrupted administrative and academic decisions, weakened oversight, and hampered long-term planning.
He also pointed out chronic understaffing, with several sanctioned administrative and teaching positions vacant. This has overburdened the existing staff, delayed processes, and led to dependence on contractual faculty, affecting both the quality of instruction and student support.
Syngkon urged the ministry to appoint a regular director promptly and ensure all vacant positions are filled within a set timeline.
