Agartala, February 04, 2026: In a major breakthrough, West District police have successfully recovered 24 stolen mobile phones and returned them to their rightful owners. Alongside, police from the East Police Station also seized a gold chain and arrested an accused thief.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Namit Pathak briefed the media on Wednesday about the achievement. He was joined by Sadar SDPO Debaprasad Roy and East Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath.
According to SP Pathak, the mobile phones had gone missing from different parts of West District over the past six months. Multiple complaints were lodged at local police stations, prompting a sustained investigation. Through continuous efforts, officers managed to recover 24 devices, 14 of which were traced and identified via the CIR portal. The recovered phones were formally handed over to their owners during the press briefing.
In addition, police recovered a gold chain from Agartala’s Chandrapur area. One accused was arrested in connection with the theft. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been hiding in Kailashahar. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid and apprehended him.
Police sources confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections and further investigation is underway. Residents who received their lost phones expressed relief and gratitude, welcoming the success of the West District police administration.
