Agartala, February 06, 2026: Tripura is preparing to roll out three major livelihood initiatives under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) on February 11, placing women at the forefront of rural innovation and inclusive growth. The programmes are designed to strengthen Self-Help Groups (SHGs), support vulnerable households, and nurture women entrepreneurs into future business leaders.

In Sepahijala district’s Mohanbhog Block, a Rs 69 lakh Jal Bastra Project will be inaugurated under the Swagat Non-Farm Cluster. Operated entirely by SHG women, the project introduces the innovative use of water hyacinth — a plant often dismissed as waste — to generate income opportunities. The initiative is expected to benefit hundreds of SHG members directly and thousands of families indirectly, turning discarded resources into sustainable livelihoods.

With a budget of Rs 40 crore, TRLM will also launch the Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana, an inclusive programme under DAY-NRLM. SAY follows the “Graduation Approach,” combining social protection, skill training, and financial inclusion to help extremely poor households escape poverty. Special emphasis will be placed on TTAADC areas, targeting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), women-headed households, and single-member families to ensure the most marginalized are integrated into SHG networks.

In a landmark partnership, TRLM is collaborating with IIM Calcutta to establish a Rs 10.70 crore Incubator Project. Over the next three years, the programme will mentor and scale up 250 women-led enterprises, equipping rural entrepreneurs with training, market linkages, and incubation support. TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma said the initiative aims to create “Crorepati Didis,” building on the state’s success with SHGs and advancing women’s economic empowerment.

Together, these initiatives underscore Tripura’s commitment to women-led innovation and sustainable development. By positioning women at the center of rural transformation, the state is charting a path where grassroots enterprise and social equity progress hand in hand.
