Guwahati, Febr 7: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the recently announced India–United States framework for an interim trade agreement is expected to support multiple sectors, promote technology partnerships, strengthen supply chains, and expand global trade opportunities. The statement was shared through a post on X, where Sarma described the development as significant for India’s economic growth.

According to Sarma, the proposed agreement is aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship, generating employment opportunities, and supporting MSMEs, startups, fishermen, women, and youth. He noted that the framework aligns with efforts to expand manufacturing and innovation while creating new market access for Indian businesses.

Sarma stated that the agreement proposes mutual reductions in import duties on several goods, which is expected to improve bilateral trade between the two countries. He added that the tariff adjustments are intended to remain competitive globally while ensuring that the interests of farmers are safeguarded.

The interim trade framework between India and the United States is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, innovation, and economic development, with both countries aiming to strengthen commercial ties and increase bilateral trade volumes in the coming years.
