Security Forces Destroy 83 Acres Of Illegal Poppy Cultivation; Drug Peddler Arrested In Thoubal

Security forces, in coordination with the Forest Department, carried out extensive anti-narcotics operations across Manipur on February 6, 2026, resulting in the destruction of large tracts of illegal poppy cultivation and the arrest of a drug trafficker.

In Ukhrul district, a joint team destroyed about 80 acres of illicit poppy plantation at the Sihai hill range under Ukhrul Police Station. During the operation, ten temporary huts found at the plantation sites were burnt and destroyed.

 

On the same day, another combined team comprising security forces, the Forest Department and an Executive Magistrate destroyed approximately three acres of illegal poppy cultivation at the Lakhamai hills under Phaibung Police Station in Senapati district. Three huts located at the plantation sites were also burnt and destroyed.

Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, security forces intercepted a four-wheeler, an A-Star bearing registration number UP-32DS-2851, at Lilong Alia Lamkhai under Lilong Police Station. The occupant of the vehicle, identified as Md. Abbas Ahamed (42), was arrested along with 1.543 kilograms of brown sugar. The vehicle used for transportation of the contraband was also seized.
