Agartala, February 11, 2026: With the support of the State Government and under the initiative of Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital, a Special Thalassemia Awareness Camp will be organised on February 15 next at 4:00 PM at the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College campus.
The camp aims to create widespread awareness about thalassemia, a hereditary blood disorder, and to extend essential medical guidance and support to children affected by the condition. Special emphasis will be placed on motivating young men and women to undergo pre-marital blood screening, considered a crucial preventive step in controlling the disease at the societal level.
Medical experts highlighted that although thalassemia is a genetic disorder, early diagnosis, proper counselling, regular blood tests, and continuous treatmentcan significantly improve the quality of life of affected children. Public awareness and preventive screening were described as the most effective tools to reduce the incidence of the disease.
Meanwhile, plans are underway to organise a Thalassemia Awareness and Treatment Camp in Tripura in the coming months through a joint initiative of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute, Mumbai, and Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital, where expert consultations and treatment support will be provided.
The programme will also feature a brief discussion on “Santiniketan E-Haat”, an initiative of Positive Barta, aimed at promoting local handicraft artisans and folk artists by creating an industry-friendly ecosystem with the support of social media influencers.
Organisers expressed hope that public participation and support would strengthen preventive healthcare efforts and community awareness for the welfare of children and society.
