Itanagar, Feb 11: Installation of boundary pillars has officially started along the inter-state border between Arunachal Pradesh’s Pakke Kessang district and Assam’s Biswanath district, marking a key step toward resolving a decades-old boundary dispute, officials said on Wednesday.

The work began on Monday under the supervision of officials from both states and representatives from the Survey of India, following an earlier agreement aimed at amicably settling the issue. Authorities said the initiative is expected to bring clarity and stability for border communities while promoting peace and cooperation.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge, representing Pakke Kessang, described the development as “historic,” and acknowledged the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Officials noted that progress accelerated after the Namsai Declaration in July 2022, which laid the groundwork for a permanent settlement. Both states have taken a phased approach, starting with simpler areas, with regional committees conducting joint field visits, reviewing historical records, and consulting local communities to reach mutual solutions.
