Agartala, February 11, 2026: The Tripura Guerrilla Returned Demand Committee, an organization of surrendered militants, has announced a blockade of national highways and railway lines across the state on February 20, pressing for two key demands — immediate resumption of a stalled rehabilitation project and withdrawal of all pending cases against former militants who have returned to the mainstream.

Addressing the media personnel at Agartala on Wednesday, leaders of the committee said, “We had surrendered before 1998 and returned to the mainstream through discussions with the then Left Front government. We chose the path of peace with the hope of a secure future.”

They stated that on May 22, 2007, an amount of Rs 45 crore was allocated for proper rehabilitation and permanent settlement of the surrendered militants. The project began in 2008 and reportedly continued until 2018. “After the change of government and later due to the Covid-19 situation, all work under the project was stopped. Since then, there has been no update,” a representative alleged.

According to the committee, nearly Rs 22 crore of the allocated Rs 45 crore has already been spent. “We demand that the rehabilitation project be restarted immediately with the remaining funds of around Rs 23 crore. This is our rightful due,” they asserted.

The organization further claimed that despite repeated appeals to the administration, no concrete steps have been taken. “We have knocked on every administrative door, but to no avail. If our demands are not met, we will be compelled to intensify our democratic movement,” the leaders warned.

The announcement of the proposed blockade has raised concerns about potential disruption to transport and public life on February 20.
