DPIIT Joint Secretary Sanjiv Singh Engages with Tripura Startups; NFSU and NLU Tripura Join NGIN Initiative

Agartala, February 12, 2026: In a significant boost to Tripura’s growing startup ecosystem, Sanjiv Singh, IRS, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, interacted with emerging entrepreneurs during his visit to the Directorate of Information Technology (DIT), Government of Tripura on Wednesday.

The interaction session witnessed extensive discussions on innovation, entrepreneurship and institutional support mechanisms aimed at strengthening startups in the State. Around ten Tripura-based startups showcased their products and innovations through stalls arranged by DIT, engaging directly with senior policymakers and industry representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Sanjiv Singh informed that DPIIT would extend “extensive support” for organizing a North East Startup Conclave in Agartala. He further stated that the Government of India has earmarked a substantial seed fund for startups in the North Eastern region and would deploy dedicated additional manpower to support startups in Tripura.

Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary, Information Technology, Government of Tripura, elaborated on the initiatives undertaken by DIT to nurture the State’s startup ecosystem. Shri Jeya Ragul Geshan B, IFS, Director, IT, presented a detailed overview of Startup Tripura, highlighting its journey, milestones and future roadmap under the Tripura Startup Policy 2025.

On the occasion, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between DIT and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Tripura Campus, and the National Law University (NLU), Tripura, to onboard them under the New Generation Innovation Network (NGIN) initiative. Prof. Dr. H.K. Pratihari, Campus Director, NFSU, and Prof. Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NLU Tripura, were present during the signing ceremony. The collaboration aims to promote innovation-led research, entrepreneurship and incubation support within higher educational institutions.

The Sector-Agnostic Tripura Startup Policy, launched by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, has already approved over 100 startups and recognized 48, with several receiving Proof-of-Concept and fiscal incentives. A Rs 50 crore Startup Venture Fund, including Rs 15 crore from the State Government, has been envisaged to support scalable ventures.

The State has also onboarded ten institutions, including Tripura University and NIT Agartala, under the NGIN scheme. The inclusion of NFSU and NLU Tripura marks another step toward expanding the innovation network and fostering knowledge-driven entrepreneurship in the State.
