Agartala, February 12, 2025: The nationwide general strike called by central trade unions and various labour federations on Thursday failed to make any significant impact on normal life in the state capital. Public activities in Agartala continued without disruption since early morning.
Earlier, the state government had announced that all government schools, colleges, offices and courts would remain open on February 12 and that official work would proceed as per rules. In line with the directive, attendance in government and private offices was reported to be normal. Educational institutions also witnessed regular student attendance.
Commercial activity across key market areas of the city remained largely unaffected. Most shops and business establishments opened as usual, with a steady flow of customers observed throughout the day. Public transport services, along with private vehicles, operated normally, ensuring smooth movement for office-goers and the general public.
Traffic movement in major areas, including Battala, remained smooth. A similar situation was observed at the Chandrapur Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), where buses and jeeps operated on schedule from the morning hours. While there was a marginal dip in the number of long-distance passengers, the volume of daily commuters remained steady.
To ensure law and order, security personnel were deployed at key intersections and sensitive locations across the city. However, no untoward incidents were reported from any part of the capital during the day.
Overall, despite the nationwide strike call, Agartala witnessed a peaceful day with normal public life and uninterrupted services across sectors.
