Security forces on February 12 recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from the Champhai hill range area under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district.
The recovered items included two .303 rifles, one .22 rifle, eight 12 bore single barrel guns, 25 INSAS live rounds, 10 .303 live rounds, one 12 bore live round, two blank cartridges, four INSAS magazines, one locally made bomb, one WP-80 smoke grenade, two smoke stun grenades, two tear smoke shells, one tear smoke grenade, four Baofeng handsets and two handset chargers.
In a separate operation carried out on the same day, security forces recovered another cache of arms and ammunition from Awlmun village area under Kangchup Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The seized items comprised one MA-11MK rifle along with a magazine, one pistol with a magazine, six single barrel guns, two improvised mortars, 50 INSAS live rounds, one single barrel live round, two PEK explosives, two 36 hand grenades with two arming rings, two detonators, one handset, one bulletproof jacket cover and two pairs of jungle shoes.
Meanwhile, on February 11, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the proscribed outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), identified as Angom Romio Meitei alias Tayai, alias Ningthem (38), a resident of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai in Imphal West district. He was apprehended from Moirang Bazar Thanga Parking under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district.
Police said he was involved in a firing incident at Lairenjam Awang Leikai in Imphal West district in August 2024 and had also been recruiting new cadres for the proscribed group. A mobile phone and two SIM cards were seized from his possession.
On February 12, security forces also arrested another active cadre of PREPAK, identified as Haobijam Manaoton Singh alias Lakpa, alias Ton (24), a resident of Moirang Khunou Makha Leikai, Bishnupur district, presently staying at Moirang Khunou Hijam Khongnangkhong Leikai under Keibul Police Station. He was arrested from his residence.
